Empty Bowls Project

The Empty Bowls Project was started to bring community awareness of local hunger needs. Empty Bowls allows participating artists and groups to create and donate bowls and then serve a simple meal to attendees. Silvia Dodson, UFB Board Member, has chaired this project form it’s inception.  Partnering with our Hillsborough County schools each year, the students create bowls that are display during the event and ticket holders can choose one bowl of their liking to take home with them.   Live music along with a live auction of local artist bowls and new this year, The Fork Ran Away With The Spoon 5k. Then round the day off with of course delicious soup provided by various local churches and civic organizations for attendees to sample. Last year the Empty Bowls Committee created a cookbook with many of these scrumptious soup recipes from groups who have attended.  All proceeds of the cookbook benefited the United Food Banks mission to provide a hand up, not a hand out!
